In the initial stage, I took an in-depth look at the current competitors already in the market. With the sheer amount of systems in exsitance, I chose two popular KDS companies with a wide range of features to analyze.

I started the build phase by creating wireframes as reference to the general format of the KDS interface. The details were then inserted depending on the information needed to fulfill user goals such as highlighting tickets and finishing orders.
I used Figma to transform the wireframes into a high-fidelity protoype. The prototype was then brought to a live kitchen to test with the head chef who gave me insights into what features needed to be added as well as omitted. The main goal of the first iteration was to maintain simplicity in order to provide user’s a seamless way to complete core tasks.
Figure KDS was released to the app store in October of 2020. The design met the requirements for users and business needs while it continues to be tested for improvements.
Throughout this project, I was reminded the importance of user testing. The feedbacks I gathered throughout the first iteration alone provided some information crucial to the main tasks and I imagine more testing will reveal many more opportunites to make the interface as user friendly as possible.
